High-Performance Cleaning for Athletic Turf
Sports field turf faces intense use. Sweat, physical impact, and the volume of athletes per square foot requires commercial-grade TurFresh Formulation and professional equipment.

The TurFresh Commercial Field Maintenance Program
A scheduled program built the way municipal RFPs specify it, delivered by a specialty company that only performs artificial turf maintenance.
Pre and Post Inspection, Documented
Every visit opens and closes with a field inspection covering infill depth and consistency, seams, inlays, line verification, edging attachments, and potential warranty repairs, written up in a FieldCare Maintenance Summary Report.
Deep Groom and Decompaction
General sweeping for surface debris, plus deep grooming and tier two decompaction as conditions require: vacuum rotary brush infill cleaning, fiber rejuvenation, and a fine groom with a power surface brush to maintain proper surface hardness.
Safety Layer on Every Visit
Field magnet sweep to capture ferrous metal, anti-microbial spray application, infill top-up in high-traffic zones, and minor inlay repairs handled inside the program scope.
GMax Testing to the ASTM Standard
Surface hardness is tested in accordance with ASTM F1936 using an F355 A-missile procedure: drops at ten specified field locations, including high-wear areas, with the average of the second and third drops at each point required to stay at or below 200 Gmax. Annual testing with full written reports gives athletic directors and risk managers the documentation their programs require, and repairs are verified with follow-up testing when a point fails.
Every Visit Ends With a FieldCare Report
Your facilities team receives a written FieldCare Maintenance Summary for every service: pre-inspection technician notes, the exact services performed, equipment used, ten-point infill depth readings taken before and after service, photo documentation, and any repairs mapped on your field layout. It is the paper trail that supports warranty claims, board reporting, and duty-of-care documentation.
TurFresh is founder-led with more than 20 years of artificial turf experience and 25 full-time employees, and our field history includes JSerra Catholic High School football and baseball, Santa Margarita Catholic High School softball training areas, St. Mary’s school play areas, and multi-field maintenance for the City of San Clemente. TurFresh wrote the playbook on professional synthetic field maintenance. The guidance below is drawn directly from our full Athletic Field Care Playbook, the same system our crews use to keep school, club, and municipal fields safe, compliant, and performing like new.
Neglect Shows Up as Injuries, Odor, and Early Replacement
Compacted Infill
Foot traffic compacts the sand and rubber infill that supports the turf. Compaction reduces shock absorption, raises GMax values, and increases injury risk.
Surface Contamination
Dirt, organic matter, and sweat feed bacteria growth, including staph. Regular cleaning and scheduled disinfecting keep the surface hygienic for athletes.
Blade Matting and Wear
Without regular brushing and grooming, fibers flatten and wear paths appear in high-use zones, hurting both playability and appearance.
Drainage Problems
Clogged drainage leaves water pooling on the surface after storms, affecting playability and shortening the life of the turf system.
Routine Care on the Right Cadence
Brushing: Weekly
Regular brushing keeps blades upright, prevents matting, and redistributes infill evenly. Brush in multiple directions, never when the field is wet, and increase frequency for heavily used fields.
Debris Removal: Daily to As Needed
Leaves, trash, and organic matter damage turf, clog drainage, and feed bacteria. Inspect before and after each use, and use blowers or turf vacuums for fine debris.
Infill Checks: Monthly
Inspect infill levels monthly and top up high-traffic areas as needed. Proper infill depth preserves cushioning, stability, and shock absorption without overfilling.
Cleaning and Disinfecting Are Not the Same Job
Cleaning removes dirt, debris, and organic matter that dull the field and cause odor. Disinfecting eliminates the bacteria, viruses, and pathogens that put athletes at risk, and matters most for high-contact sports. The playbook calls for surface cleaning weekly, deep cleaning at least once a season, and disinfecting at least monthly on fields shared by multiple teams. TurFresh crews use turf-safe products for both, so fibers and infill are never damaged in the process.
GMax Testing Keeps Athletes Safe and Programs Compliant
What GMax Measures
GMax testing measures how much impact your field absorbs. A value between 100 and 200 is generally considered acceptable. Above 200 the field is too hard and unsafe, and below 100 it is too soft to support play. Testing should happen at least annually, and more often for high-use fields or extreme climates.
Staph Prevention and Documentation
Turf can harbor bacteria like staph, transmitted through skin contact, cuts, and abrasions. Routine disinfecting, good athlete hygiene, and prompt wound care are the defense. Keep maintenance logs and GMax reports on file. Documented care protects both your athletes and your organization if questions ever arise.
Where Fields Wear Out First
The playbook identifies the zones that fail before everything else. These areas need extra infill, extra brushing, and closer inspection.
Sidelines and Benches
Constant foot traffic compacts these strips faster than anywhere else on the field.
Goal Areas and Corners
Goalkeeper zones and corner-play areas take concentrated abuse and matting.
Line of Scrimmage
Every football snap concentrates force in the same band of turf, play after play.
End Zones
Scoring plays and celebrations wear end zones ahead of midfield. Inspect them monthly.
